Our Process

Jesus left us with the command to make disciples of all nations. We take that Great Commission very seriously. But how do we accomplish this? Becoming an authentic follower of Jesus Christ is a process, a process in which your church partners with you. Here is our simple process for becoming more like Jesus.

1.

Come to Church

This is where it all starts. There is no substitute for being there. Transformation begins with God’s people reporting for duty, ready to sign up for the adventure of walking with Jesus. All of us have a holy appointment with God and each other every Sunday.

2.

Join the Family

God never intended for us to live our Christian lives in isolation. The Apostles and the first Christians drew near to each other in worship, in service, in instruction and in fellowship. They were devoted to each other. They called each other brother and sister, like a family. Therefore we offer a Welcome to the Family class for all who want to make Light on the Corner Church their church home.

3.

Learn the Faith

Faith in Jesus opens the door to knowing and learning many eternal truths that are both very deep and highly practical. For this reason, Christianity has been called “a thinking man’s religion”. Once a person comes to faith in Christ, there is much to learn. Jesus said: “Take my yoke upon you and learn from me”. With this in mind, we offer an eight week class called, 8 Things Every Christian Should Know. This course is full of biblical truths for understanding what it means to be a Christian.

4.

Live the Faith

A purely theoretical walk with God is useless. Jesus calls us to actually apply his teachings to daily life. Certainly the world is longing to see Christianity not just taught but lived. Living the Faith class is all about putting the commands of Jesus into practice.  What are his demands?  In this exciting class we will get together weekly and debrief about the previous week - our experiences about living out the commands of Jesus.

Loving Jesus!

Who is Jesus?

Jesus has been gently pursuing you for a long time. He's an amazing person. He's worth getting to know. 2000 years after his arrival on this planet he remains the most sought after prophet of any world religion. Here are just a few reasons why.

1.

Jesus had a supernatural entrance into this world.

No one has a virgin for a mother...but Jesus did! As you can imagine, Joseph was most displeased at discovering his fiance´ was pregnant, but an angel told him the amazing truth:

“Joseph…do not be afraid to go ahead with your marriage to Mary. For the child within her has been conceived by the Holy Spirit.”Matthew 1:20 (NLT)

2.

Jesus existed before he was born.

Not only was Jesus born 100% human but he existed as God with his Father in heaven before his birth. When he was born he was called Immanuel - "God With Us". Jesus is the one and only God-man. This is a God-sized mystery.

“The Good News is about his Son. In his earthly life he was born into King David’s family line, and he was shown to be the Son of God when he was raised from the dead by the power of the Holy Spirit. He is Jesus Christ our Lord.”Romans 1:3-4 (NLT)

3.

Jesus could do things only God could do.

While on earth Jesus claimed to forgive sins. He healed the sick. He made the lame walk and the blind see. He even raised the dead. While many prefer to call Jesus a good, moral teacher, Jesus called himself far more than that. He called himself, "the way the truth and the life", the "living water" and "the light of the world". He received the worship of those who called him God. And then he claimed the power to raise himself from the dead. Who else could do these things but God?

“Is it easier to say ‘Your sins are forgiven,’ or ‘Stand up and walk’? So I will prove to you that the Son of Man has the authority on earth to forgive sins.” Then Jesus turned to the paralyzed man and said, “Stand up, pick up your mat, and go home!” And the man jumped up and went home!”Matthew 9:5-7 (NLT)

4.

Jesus died as a sacrifice for the sins of the whole world.

Since Jesus had no sins of his own, he could pay the penalty for our sins. With his own blood Jesus paid the full price for our disobedience. Why would Jesus do this?

“For God made Christ, who never sinned, to be the offering for our sin, so that we could be made right with God through Christ.”2 Corinthians 5:21 (NLT)
“But God showed his great love for us by sending Christ to die for us while we were still sinners.”Romans 5:8 (NLT)

5.

Jesus proves his claims by rising from the dead.

On the third day after his crucifixion for our sins, Jesus rose bodily from the dead in the same body in which he died and was buried, but one transformed in every respect into a body fit for heaven. Because of his resurrection, we know that Jesus is the Son of God and that his sacrifice was acceptable to the Father.

“Christ died for our sins, just as the Scriptures said. He was buried, and he was raised from the dead on the third day, just as the Scriptures said. He was seen by Peter and then by the Twelve. After that, he was seen by more than 500 of his followers at one time.”1 Corinthians 15:3-6 (NLT)
Conclusion

After 2000 years, skeptics have never provided a sufficient answer to this question: What happened to the body of Jesus? No one ever found his dead body because by Easter Sunday it wasn't dead anymore. There is no other reasonable answer than this: Jesus Christ actually, literally, and physically rose from the dead. And from that day to this, the Christian church has made Christ's resurrection the cornerstone of the Good News.

So What?

The resurrection of Jesus is vitally important because it proves that he really is the Son of God and that everything he said is true. No one else has ever come back from the dead never to die again. This means that in the most profound sense Jesus Christ is alive today. And that's why you can know him personally. Because he is alive, he gives eternal life to those who trust in him. And because he conquered death, those who trust in him need not fear death, for they have assurance that they will go to heaven to be with the Lord Jesus when they die. When he returns, their bodies will be raised from the dead. All this is guaranteed to those who believe in him because Christ rose from the dead.
